here's what you'll learn
Research shows that 1 in 5 people have experienced trauma. That means the impact of trauma is experienced either on or close to your life.
The sad truth is that most faith communities – and most of us – aren’t equipped to care for or serve those who have experienced trauma.
This workshop is designed to equip the church leader, member and average Christian about the importance of building a faith and service model that is informed by an understanding of trauma and its impact.
During the workshop, the following questions will be answered:
1
“What is trauma?”
A definition of trauma will be reviewed as well as types of trauma and examples of situations, events, etc. in which trauma may occur.
2
“How did Jesus approach trauma?”
Two passages of scripture will be presented and reviewed. For each passage, the information from session one will be applied to the people, places, events, etc.
3
“What does this mean for me?”
The focus will be on defining the Kingdom of God and what it looks like for followers of Jesus to do their part in bringing the kingdom to “earth as it is in heaven.”
Sybil lifts the layers of a person’s sinful behavior and destructive choices to help us see the trauma, the brokenness and pain that lie beneath. This course also provides an opportunity for mercy from the Body of Christ to so many, within and outside of the Body, living in the aftermath or within current trauma.

By shifting my focus and looking at [the woman at the well] with a trauma-informed lens, I read the story thinking about the trauma she may have experienced in her past; I was able to see her story in a new light, with compassion and empathy for what trauma she may have experienced that led her to her choices.

This course gave me new insight into the topic of trauma. Reflections on the Bible provided a different perspective on trauma in our current world.
